Miscellany

Because I wasn’t sure what subject these things would come under, I decided just to make a blog post which would be able to cover all of them. Image

First of all, here is an adorable pup I met in Pets At Home!  I always like to take pictures of cute pups when I meet them!

Image

But here’s my own cute pup, in the family’s new Summerhouse! (I’m not laying claim to the summerhouse as I’ve barely been out in it since it was made, a fact that my mother wants to change, but I think she’ll be understanding when she knows I’ve been doing this blogpost when I could have been out there!)

Image

And here is the prettiest little cat in the world, ever!  She spends an increasing amount of time in my room…

Image

Although not all cute animals I take picture of have to be real, animate animals… This badger would be cute anyway, but with the apron and dishwashing gloves on…

Image

And sometimes the animals are just so cute, I have to bring them home (Unfortunately, this is allowed considerably more frequently with the inanimate ones…)  This is Oscar Wildebeast (get it?) who I spotted in Sainsbury’s and surprisingly (certainly my parents later admitted to surprise at this) didn’t bring home until the next time I was in!

Image

On a non-cute related note, but another thing I’m very fond of, a food related development!  This is the family’s new pancake maker.  So far it has only been used once but hopefully that will change soon…

Image

Another new thing, related to a favourite thing… My Mum and I finally built my new bookcase for my new (ish) room!  Although we were just piling the books and DVDs on without any thought for categorising, I had to put all my Tamora Pierce books together and in order!  I will write a post about her books soon…  Also, that’s a leaflet about different things on at the Edinburgh Playhouse, not a program for Cats… I’m not generally a fan of modern musicals, but Les Miserables is a different matter, and one that will be discussed in a post once I’ve got the Blu-ray and so can illustrate it with photos!

I was going to include my recent trip to Paperchase in Glasgow in this post, but when I saw how many photos I wanted to use in it, I thought I’d better do that separately, but it will follow very soon!

Cute Things #1: Around the House

Finally!  A cute things post!  I’m sorry about the long wait, but the only downside to taking TWO Open University courses at the same time is that essays can get pretty much back to back…

Image

Unsure of where to start with this post, I decided to go with chronological, though since I can’t remember the order others were taken in, that will break down pretty quickly, but I tend to find it most difficult to get started, rather than to continue once I have…  This was the first picture I took for this post, as you can probably tell when you look at it.  These are Santa Bears that we have on the mantelpiece at Christmas.  Do I really need to explain their presence in this post any further?!?

Image

Following the theme of bears, here is my teddy.  I’ve had her as long as I can remember, and though it may seem childish to still have her around when I’m 23, she’s so sweet, can you really blame me?

Image

Continuing the theme of things in my room, here is my collection of creatures made by my friend Kris of http://kscottcrafts.bttradespace.com/!

Image

This is the first of the collection, who I named Idris after the baby dragon from the Ivor the Engine cartoons I used to watch when I was little!  I love how chubby she is, it really makes her look like a little toddler dragon!

Image

Anyone very familiar with the opening chapters of Lord of the Rings will understand why I had to name this green dragon Sam!

Image

This little dragon was made for me at the request of my Mum and given as a Christmas present a couple of years ago!  I love purple and I’m a writer!  I’ve no idea why, but I just had a feeling her name was Terry…

Image

Another activity I love!  As yet I have no name for this little dragon, but I expect that one will come to me sometime…

Image

I had to get this as the little worried look on the baby dragon’s face made me want to look after it!

Image

Whereas this baby dragon seems much happier with this Good Wizard!  Yes, I know I didn’t have to protect this one but… just look!  Cute!

Image

Not a dragon or wizard, but similarly magic themed.  Besides, I love rabbits!  Kris is so great making little creatures have really appealing facial expressions!

Image

Not a part of the collection, just another cute animal I have in my room.  As with Idris, the chubbiness is very appealing!  Elephants are among my favourite animals!

Image

More elephants, but this time downstairs.  The quality of the photo isn’t quite as good in this one, but they’re pretty high up so it’s more difficult to reach them.  These elephants are on display all year round, but at Christmas they become ‘The Three Wise Elephants’ because of their number and the fact that they appear to be looking upwards (and it gives us an excuse to keep them around in December)!

Image

And a new addition to the Sitting Room.  I’m not entirely sure what kind of animals are supposed to be represented here, but they’re cute (especially the middle one on the right, for some reason…)! Also, I find the heart patterned material my Mum just added to is cute as well.

That’s all for this time!  There will be a separate entry sometime for animate cute things in the house!  But first I have some reviews planned…

A Day in Glasgow

Once again, the post of cuteness has to be postponed!  However, this post WILL have some pretty cute things in it.  On the 5th, my Dad had a tutorial to teach in Glasgow (he works with the Open University among other things…) and my Mum and I decided to go in too and have a look around at the shops (mainly stationery shops…) and then meet up with him for a meal.  Since my Dad’s tutorial was from two till four, we obviously had to get something to keep us going till we ate later…

Image

We dropped in at Cafe Nero for some Hot Chocolate.  You can get it made with soya milk there if you ask, as you can in many such places, but we have on good authority that the cocoa they use is DEFINITELY dairy free!  I had enjoyed hot chocolate from Cafe Nero before but now that my Mum had found out about asking for it to be double strength, it was even more delicious!

Then on to New Look.  I got what I describe as ‘Hippy-Heart’ (heart shapes with the CND logo in them) earrings for Christmas that had originated from there but I wanted to see if they had any Peace Sign necklaces, or silver earrings as the ones I got for Christmas were gold and I wanted to have a variety.  This is what I got:

Image

After that we went to Ryman’s.  I had intended to take pictures in there, but I was so engrossed with looking at the stationery stuff that I forgot!  Here are some pictures of some of the things I got there, though.  Taken once I got home

The stickers are to decorate my Filofax (see previous post!)  However, the scraps weren’t from Ryman’s.  They were from Tiger, which had been recommended to us, and we’d never been to before.  This is where the cute things come in!  I was taking photos pretty much the whole time I was in there, and even starting before hand, through the window!

Image

How cute are these???

Image

And these?  For some reason I find the caption ‘Teddy Bear/Mouse’ incredibly endearing!

Image

I always find mini versions of things adorable.  I even have a post planned that will be devoted entirely to cute little mini things!

Image

And more mini things!  And they’re pigs!  (I have a special fondness for pigs… and bears…more on those in a later post, too!)

Image

My brother and I used to have a large collection of these from the Early Learning Centre when we were little.  (I say ‘used to’ but I think I still have most of them in a box in a cupboard somewhere… I find it really difficult to throw away anything with sentimental value…)

Image

And another animal I’m very fond of!

After that, we went next door to Waterstone’s to look at the stationery stuff there.  I also got a book poster there which will appear on here once it’s up in my new room.  But I also saw this…

Image

I remember the Moomins with immense fondness…

On our travels my Mum and I also saw this really interesting old building

And this one with a model ship on the top!

And then, after meeting up with my Dad, we passed this interesting looking shop, but we were on our way for food and too hungry to stop for any longer than the time it took to take a picture of these cute creatures!

Image

We ate in Stereo, a great Vegan restaurant and this is what I had:

A falafel pita, followed by

scones and jam!

It was a really great day, and I had plenty to gaze at and use when I got home!  But the most useful thing I got was a case for my camera!  Now it’ll be MUCH easier for me to take it to different places, and much easier to get out and use than it was in a padded envelope inside my shoulder bag!
